Chic on the Cheap...
I have always believed that true style was never about spending money - limited funds should have nothing to do with limiting your style statement!
How to do Chic on the Cheap is not a secret, it is in fact very simple- you forget all about current colours and seasonal trends, and start with a blank canvas, i.e. 'the basics' - Choose neutral colours that suit your colour palette, these can be new, used, vintage value, or re-invented.
Base the bones of your wardrobe on a few pairs of jeans, (different lengths for different looks), a couple of pairs of smart/casual trousers, a stylish skirt, a simple dress, an 'all season' coat such as a trench coat, at least one piece of quality knitwear, a white shirt, a cream/ivory blouse, a few basic t shirts in colours that suit your skin tone, and a couple of camisoles!
ADD TO - this is where you make the difference-
Design 'your' look with a few Emi-Jay Hair Ties £12.00
Shoes, scarves, eyewear, hosiery, jewellery and sparkly accessories, faux fur, hair ornaments, hats, belts, handbags, umbrellas.... just anything that speaks of you and your personality. Train your eye to look for something unusual. Different doesn't need to be out of your comfort zone, it just needs to be something that is appealing and unique to you.
Don't base your entire wardrobe on the cheap, spend as much as you can afford on a good quality coat, classic trousers or a well fitted white shirt for example, though you can get away with designer jeans from ebay or vintage from a second hand shop.
Don't buy anything just for the sake of it- even on a limited budget, you should still be choosy and expect every purchase to extend your wardrobe possibilities.
Look for the unusual - in places like Outlet stores, check out TK Maxx for designer sunglasses and stylish shoes, or Saturday markets and car boot sales for hoards of hidden treasures - remember, one woman's trash is another woman's treasure!!

Do make a shopping budget - work out how much you want to spend on clothes by the week, month, year, and stick to it.
Do check out antique or nic-nac shops which are great for second hand costume jewellery, evening bags or hair ornaments etc, and don't forget our favourite fashion store 'Pradamark', always perfect for basic T shirts, camisoles, scarves, belts and hosiery. Also look in Zara or H&M for collectable 'style' T shirts which have a vintage feel.
Collectable concert T shirts from your favourite bands
will become limited editions over time-
so hold on to them, they are 'vintage' in the making!
Think outside the High Street Box and you'll be surprised what you can find! A lot of what is reduced in the 'post Christmas sales' is usually what no one else wanted. Sometimes it's good just to take time to think about how to put together what you already have, rather than to look for 'sales bargains' only to accumulate yet more clothes.
When it comes to Vintage, it's really not important how much you spend, what is important is that no one can even second guess how much you have spent!
Wishing you all a successful and savvy new year shopping spree,
x
